The weekend is here....YEA !!!!!

I have to say with my budget being what it is lately, I've been into my cookbook cupboard alot. I know most of you have a few cookbooks--I have too many to count. Jim says my credo is "You can never have too many cookbooks" I have an entire cupboard full of them. Some were my gramma's, most I've collected over the years. When the cupboard starts to overflow, I usually clean it out and garage sale the ones I don't use. But most I keep. I have a big binder full of the ones I've printed off the internet and a couple of boxes with the ones I've cut out or been given over the years. I have taken to marking pages with stickies so I know where my favorite recipes are--Staples has these things called Post It Filing Tabs---they are great, small and sticky on one end to stick to the page, but you can write on the other end. My favorite cookbooks are the ones that churches and schools put together. You know the ones, they have everyones favorite easy recipes in them. The Dean Brothers (Paula Deans' sons) and I have been cooking a lot together lately, their cookbook is great. Today is baking day--trying Paula's Toffee Gooey Butter Cake. I have been baking every weekend for awhile now, gives Jim and I treats to take in our lunches to work. My other favorite cookbook is the one I made of my mom's recipes. Shortly after she died I took her recipe box and copied all the recipes I could decipher--she was a great one for no title and no how to's, just the list of ingredients, sometimes without the measurements. I then typed them all up and put them together in a binder and made one for each of my brothers and sister and dad for Christmas that year. What memories...see we each had some of her recipes, the ones we really liked we already had but no one had everything. What a great gift for each of us. I'm slowly putting a new one together for Rob, with his Nana's recipes and mine, plus a few others he has liked through the years.
I love to cook and bake when I have the time...Jim and I have been having fun trying out new-old recipes. So dust off the cookbooks and give it a try....
Back to the oven.....

I too collect cookbooks. They are one of those things I always pick up as a souvenir when I go somewhere new for vacation. I have an entire bookshelf in my kitchen (floor to ceiling) and am currently working on making my own cookbook.

I love to look thru a cookbook and find something i have never tried and just make it. Doesn't always get made a second time but then some of them turn out to be our favorites and are made over and over again.

I got the Deen Boys cookbook this year when we went to Savannah and to the Nascar race in Atlanta. I LOVE IT!!!!!!
