I have a long weekend, I do have today off, am supposed to be grocery shopping and packing the camper. We will leave this afternoon when Jim gets out of work. Not going very far from home but there are 7 families going, some went yesterday. Should be a great weekend. Everyone we are going with is ex military. They either spent some time in the service or retired. One of the couples, their son leave in 2 weeks for the Air Force. We have Army , Navy , and Air Force represented in out little piece of the campground. The Red, White, and Blue will be flying on all our campers.
I spent the last hour writing up evaluations of the last couple people I finished training at work yesterday. I dislike training like I did this week. I had 3 new hires and 1 had 2 full days and 2 half days, 1 had 1 full day and 2 half days, and the third one had 4 half days. They have not been taught even half of what they need but they need "warm bodies" in that part of the department. With the exception of one they do not have good evaluations and if the director sees these, she is going to blow her cork. But as in all things I covered what I could, including my own butt!
Shannon was here last weekend, what fun we had. I pick her up in about 2 weeks and we go camping for 5 days with her and Jim's sister up north. I can't wait. Jody is coming up from Florida for 2 weeks and wanted too go camping so we are killing 2 birds with one stone. Taking her and Shannon camping and visiting with friends who are doing a work camper program at the campground we are at. We don't get to see Tony and Cheryl often anymore as they are full time campers, retired. They spend summers in the area and winters in Florida.
I have made reservations for Maine in September. YIPPEE !!!! We decided not to do the fall weekend package this year with everyone else. Pat and Gail have bought their own camper and since they are the only other family we camp with that has grown children the 4 of us decided that we would take a week and go to Maine instead. We all were able to get the Friday off to leave a day early because Lighthouse Day is September 17th this year. We want to be there so we can visit a lighthouse and go up inside it. Maine opens up some of their lighthouses once a year and the Coast Guard gives you a guided tour and history of the lighthouse. It's so cool. We happened to be in Maine 3 years ago when they did the first one. After we made our reservations this year discovered it was the Saturday we would get there, so we all asked for Friday off so we can be there and get up early on Saturday and do this. I can hardly wait, don't want to wish the summer away but I love Maine and we haven't been in a couple years.
Happy Independence Day Weekend everyone. Please take the time to say a prayer for all our military serving this weekend. If you see a service member, THANK him/her for your freedom and their service to our country. Be safe and Enjoy.

Hi Karen (and Jim),
Glad you are camping this weekend - Karen, with all the training you've been doing it sounds like you've definitely earned this weekend! Yes, I know about covering your own self in the evaluations. Sometimes the employees are eager to learn all they can....other times not so much. And it's not the Trainer but the trainee who needs to be held accountable. Sounds like you and Jim have some awesome summer plans. Good for you! I hope you enjoy every minute. How nice that your friends are doing a summer work camping experience - Ron and I have some really great memories of last year at Cheyenne Mountain State Park.
Be safe and Happy 4th of July. Thank you for your prayers for our troops.
Hugs to you and Jim,
Sue
