What a beautiful weekend here in upstate NY. Rained all week, we have major flooding all around us, we are high enough from the river that we aren't affected but we have friends who are. The Hudson and Schroon Rivers are beautiful but their force is mighty right now with the rains and snow melt. Many homes are inaccessible, some are damaged beyond repair.....north of us are being hit hard--roads closed for too much water or just washed away...some places are "you can't get there from here" now. Going over the I87 bridge between Queensbury and South Glens Falls I look at the homes on the south side of the river, a couple of them I spent a lot of time in as a child ad teenager. They were summer camps then owned by friends...now at least half submerged in the flood waters. So sad, many memories there. The Idle Hour club on Rogers Island also at least half submerged in water along with a couple cars. I lived in a house that was there for a few years when Rob was young. High water table and the driveway would flood every spring but never like this. There were a few cars parked there while members of the club went on a golf outing to Atlantic City--they managed to get 2 of them out, owners had left keys in the consoles, but one is up against the building submerged to it's roof and the other is a sports car that can't be seen--if it's still there even--we all think it's down river now. More rain is predicted for everday this coming week starting tomorrow afternoon again. Our rivers, streams, creeks can't handle anymore. The tornados in the south and the flooding here -- my prayers are with them all.
Yesterday Jim and I grocery shopped, spent the day outdoors, went out last night for a quick dinner and ice cream and then across the street for the first "campfire" of the year. It was nice sitting out and chatting, waiting for camping season to start. Bottle of wine, great friends and conversation, lots of stars......wat more could you ask for?
Today is laundry, some outside chores and we'll see what else we can get into. Have a great week everyone.
Please keep those in the midwest and south in the path of these violent storms in your prayers along with those in NY in the flooding areas. And last but certainly not least keep our military in your prayers.
