Wish all 700 + teenagers Good Luck this weekend. There are 1000 kids in the high school and over 700 of them have signed up to dance. My high school started a Marathon Dance 33 years ago. It's held the first weekend in March, starts Friday night at 7pm and ends Saturday night at 10pm. These kids have a minimum they must raise to dance (it used to be $75.00) and have to dance all the entire time--they get potty breaks, and one sleep break about 4 am for 2 hours or so. In the 33 years they have been doing this--they have raised over 2 million--that's right TWO MILLION dollars !!!! It started out small with only 1 recipient, this year 24 people or organizations will benefit. I know a couple of the recipients, always do.....what a worth while cause. All present students and all alumni are welcome to participate. They have theme dances, dances for each class, special T shirts for one dance, etc. It's a lot of fun and supports many worthy causes and people. Some of this years recipients are a mom with cystic fibrosis who just had a double lung transplant at Duke University, a baby with a disorder that caused her to have no upper extremities, a former student, now a bus driver who lost her husband ( a classmate of mine) to brain cancer in the fall and now she has lung cancer, and the list goes on.
So think of these kids and their selfless giving and the giving of everyone in the community that help them along to meet and exceed their fundraising goals.
If you click on the title of this post it will take you to their website. They do a much btter job of giving you information about the amazing kids of South High.
