RIP. Pat

Today I went to the funeral of a favorite patient of mine.  It was unlike any funeral I had ever been to before.  Pat was a great lady, always had a smile no matter how bad she felt and always came with a hat on.  Sometimes the hats were dignified, sometimes not.  She belonged the Red Hat Society, so had one of those which one of her sons wore today, I'm used to seeing Mike in a cowboy hat not a red one with pink flowers on it, she had one for every holiday like the antler hat with Christmas lights, or her crab hat someone brought her back from a vacation.  We laughed through the tears today as most wore a hat of hers.  She raised 6 kids on her own, remarried in her  late 50's, she loved getting gifts but always shared her gift of life with everyone who met her.  She picked out a song for her children and told them what she wanted for them. It was by Rascal Flatts, think the title is My Wish for You..
I don't go to many funerals but felt the need for this one, she touched my heart.

On a brighter note I know I still need to put up pics from Maine and hope to get to it this weekend.  Last weekend we cleaned and winterized the camper.  Come on May, winter is too long here in upstate NY.  The hospital just offered a voluntary separation package, had been in a better financial situation I would have taken it but with a camper payment and mortgage payment I couldn't do it.  They would have paid me for 17 weeks plus I could take my retirement.  Last time they did this was about 20 years ago so won't be around for the next one.  One of my co workers is doing it but she's been there so long they are paying her for 8 months.

Congratulations to Marine graduate Jake! He's the son of friends and graduated at Parris Island today, coming home for a week then off to Pensicola, Fl.  He has an aunt nearby down there and his great grandmother who is 100 yrs young.   Hid dad is retired Air Force and now an investigator with the state police.

Hugs to all.

Hi Karen,

October was such a busy month so am finally stopping by. Pat sounds like a very special person - how blessed we are when God brings those kinds of people into our lives. I'm sure it meant so much to her family that you were there.

It would have been nice if you could have retired...although even after 4 1/2 years, I still miss my job at times. Well, maybe not so much the job, as the people.
Even though we are in touch all the time, just want to wish you a safe and healthy winter for you and Jim. Hugs from CO!
Sue
