Today is our last full day here, we leave tomorrow for home, one because I have to go back to work and two because we are almost broke! We've eaten out more than usual, every night except one and it's killing my budget. But the food we've had is so wonderful. Lots of seafood--lobster, shrimp, scallops......The first night was our favorite diner--Maine Diner, then we've done the Wells Steakhouse, Billy's Chowder House, Ronaldo's, The Goldenrod, and of course ice cream at Brown's and we discovered a new place while in Boothbay Harbor. We have been all over the coast. We took a ride to Freeport and did the outlets and LL Bean, Boothbay Harbor was a great day, walked the shops there and checked out Chips childhood home that's for sale now. It's right on the ocean in Boothbay and OMG it's gorgeous. Now I need to won a lottery cause they are asking 6.2 million for it. We also went to Bailey's Island so Gail could shop at Lands End Gift shop, it's so cool there and to get to Bailey's Island you have to go to Orr's Island first, so took pics of the sign for my friend Betsy. I had forgotten about it till we got there and had my AH HA moment!! It's a beautiful quaint little place. We went to Kittery to the outlets there along with Kittery Trading Post and of course we ate at Bob's Clam Hut. One day the guys went fishing and Gail and I sat at the beach, I actually went in the water up to my waist. October and I'm in the ocean......the water was actually fairly warm. We have had great weather, it's been high 60's to low 70's all week and sunny. Yesterday was a down day as neither Jim nor I slept well for whatever reason so we sat here enjoyed the sun, read, and just relaxed. I have a killer view out my window of the camper of the harbor, the sunrise is spectacular! We walked York Beach, Wells Beach and Drakes Island Beach. We bought taffy at the Goldenrod, you can watch them make it in the window. They have the BEST, it actually tastes like the flavor it's supposed to be, Jim always gets a 2 lb. box of peanut butter, I get a 1 lb. box of wintergreen, blueberry, maple walnut, and a little peanut butter. They also have vanilla, chocolate, strawberry, molasses peppermint, peppermint, and 2 other flavors that are escaping me right now. We were at Nubble Lighthouse and saw a wedding on the rocks there, a Navy LT and his lovely bride. When at Nubble we have to stop at Brown's for ice cream, they make their own. I was so disappointed this year as they were already out of checkerberry--which is wintergreen ice cream--it's the only place I know that has that flavor.
Sea Vu Campground is wonderful, we always stay here. It's clean the sites are big, grassy, people are friendly. Half of it is seasonal and other half is regular campground. They have a pool, playground, mini golf, boccie ball and store. Little pricey but after Labor Day rates go down and I do love Maine in the fall even if it's a little cooler. We are going to try and make reservations for next year so we can get the 2 sites with the unobstructed view of the harbor. Our fireplace in the camper has kept us warm at night so haven't needed the furnace.
A couple weeks ago Pat, Gail, Jim and I celebrated my birthday by taking a day trip to Alexandria Bay on the St. Lawrence Seaway. We went to Boldt Castle to a wine festival. Pat and Gail had never been to the castle and it's so beautiful. The story goes that George Boldt was building this castle for his wife and she died before it was finished so he just walked away, they are now redoing it slowly. You should read up on it. Anyways my favorite winery was going to be there so I bought a few bottles, they make the best Riesling I've ever had, also like their Wellsely Island White, their blueberry and raspberry wines.
Shower time and then think we are going back to York and Wells and dinner at Ronaldo's again as Pat and Gail really loved that place. Will add pics when I get home.
