That's how much money the South High Marathon dancers raised this year. Our high school has just about 1000 students, just over 700 of them danced this year. 847 of them raised at least the $125.00 fee to be able to dance. Then with donations large and small they raised a whopping total of $326,213.58 !! That was $42,000.00 more than last year. They have raised over 2 million dollars since 1977. It's 24 hour marathon of dancing and the actual event lasts from 7 pm on Friday to 10pm on Saturday night. The kids get a break for meals and one sleep break. They are amazing. There are no words to describe it. The money is used for local families and charities -- children, alumni and others in the community with cancer or other life threatening disease, a few worthy local foundations. All the money raised is split between them. This year there were 24 recipients. They streamed it live over the internet -- it was amazing to watch. I've been there a few years -- when Rob was in elementary school a classmate of his was a recipient - had kidney cancer and died before the boys were in 3rd grade. I donate every year to at least one dancer and drop my change in the grocery store to the cause. It's a box a tissue moment when they announce the totals because no matter what they break their own record. No matter how bad the economy is they still seem to break the previous years total.
ROCK ON SOUTH HIGH !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Karen,
AWESOME! How proud your community must be of them - and what a wonderful community you have to help them raise that much money.
I'm so glad that in this time of economic difficulty, people still have the compassion to know and appreciate the important things.
It says a lot, Karen. A LOT.
God bless you all for the generosity you show.
Hugs and love,
Sue
