Hi family and friends. I've been home for almost a week now but the computer isn't where I've been--I check email every day but that's about it. My surgery last Monday went well. I slept through most everything that day, woke up when the nurses wanted to check dressings or my vital signs. Tuesday they had me out of bed in a chair, and by Wednesday I was walking with a walker and did stairs. My poor leg is black and blue from my heel to mid thigh, riht now pats of it are to the yellow stage and the rest are fading slowly. I came home on Thursday and the public health physical therapy person was here on Friday. I have a CPM (continuous passive motion) machine that I have to be on twice a day for 2 hours each time, it gently bends my knee to a certain degree and have to get it to 90 degrees--am at 80 right now. There are also exercises to help strengthen the muscles that I have to do. The worst part is I can't sleep in bed yet--can't get comfortable so am sleeping in the barca lounger. A shower----oh how I want one so bad...can't get in there till after the staples are out next week. Figures this would be the hottest week we've had all summer. Jim's been great, washing my hair in the kitchen sink for me. cooking and making sure I do the CPM and exercises.
I've read about 15 books since last week--nothing else to do. TV stinks during the day and I'm not a movie or soap opera person. I've seen the Food Network till I can tell you who's on when....
I got a pretty basket of lowers from my friends Mary and Rich--Thank you the daisy's are beautiful. My managers brought me pretty sunflower with a ribbon that had a face in the center of the sunflower--someone had stick those eyes on it and a pipe cleaner smile--it's so cute, never saw something like that before. My sister brought me lunch one day at the hospital--one of the best chef salads I've ever had. Thank you all for the prayers, the phone calls and emails. I really appreciate them.
My friend Sue--I'm so glad to see that Stephen is back on US soil and that Laurie was able to get leave to be there for his homecoming. Another soldier home--Thank you Lord.
I'm gonna miss Shannon's 3rd birthday this year. I won't be able to make the trip to Boston for the party. That breaks my heart but we'll celebrate it with her in Maine--we'll do hers and mine together one night.
Bed time--again Thank you all for your prayers.Just wanted to catch everyone up on my progress.

Oh Karen...your surgery was much more than I realized! I'm glad you are having so much help. Just keep doing those exercises.

I'll be praying for a fast recovery and that you will be in your bed soon!

Hi Karen,
Haven't been on blogger too often myself lately. By now I hope the staples are out and that you are doing better.
You are blessed by having such a great "nurse" in Jim. We both are blessed in that way.
Think of you often my friend. Keep up the good work. Thanks for your mention of our family...indeed, thank you Lord.
Hugs,
Sue
