Happy Father's Day. My dad has been gone for 6 years now and some days it seems like forever. Growing up dad always worked at least 2 if not 3 jobs. When I was very small I ended up in the hospital with a severe kidney infection that was caused at the baby sitters so my dad made my mom quit her job and she never held another job outside the home till all 4 kids were grown. What time we spent with dad was quality. He made sure we knew about guns and safety due to his main job as a police officer, taught us how to canoe, how to hunt, basics in car repair (usually his 2nd and 3rd jobs). When my mom needed dialysis 3 times a week, he learned how and did it for her for over 10 years. After my mom died he was lost she was his whole world. We had another 10 years with him but now they are together again.
My son called today without any prompting and wished Jim a Happy Father's Day. He's so proud of that young man and of course so is mom. Jim has been a step dad to him and more of a dad than his real dad. It's been an amazing journey to watch and see them bond.
On other notes, been a busy week here. Pat and Gail lost Pat's mom on Wednesday. Mary was 90 years old, she went into a coma last Saturday and they stayed with her until the end. Yesterday was the funeral. Today we all went to breakfast since we missed our Friday night dinner date, then o the LARAC festival. It's 180 vendors selling crafts, food, and art. I bought some great pot holders and a concrete stepping stone with a stained glass dragon fly in It.
2 more weeks and we have vacation--camping and Shannon -- can't wait.
