There might be a light at the end of the tunnel.  As most of you know my mother in law has dementia.  She has been at home, which we all feel is not safe for her anymore but haven't been able to get anyone to agree until now.  Monday she landed in the ER again, this time she gave herself a wrong insulin dose and Jim made them keep her against her wishes.  Tuesday the case manager told me she passed the dementia test, I laughed.  Then as he told me her answers I told him the truth, so then they went to her doctor and he agreed that she lies very convincingly, she tells you what she knows you want to hear.  She is now on a placement list.  We are looking at a skilled assisted living place.  They have therapy, wound care, a dementia unit, -- all the things she needs.  She refuses to use a walker but can't walk anyplace without holding onto omeone or something, she has scratched her arms and legs open into whole bleeding scabs because of the poor hygeine and diabtic neuropathy,  It's so sad to see her like this.  Of course she is throwing temper tantrums because we are not letting her go home again.  Had to find financial information for the county--what a mess her files are at home.  Jim, John and I have spent numerous hours this week looking for documents, running around to see case managers, visiting her, and working.  I have the utmost sympathy for any family going through this.  She's with it enough to know some things but not enough to do her medications, eat properly, pay her bills, or even bathe.  It's so sad.  I'm hoping by next weekend things will have calmed down and we can go back to normal life with her safe in a home and arrangements in place for everything else.
Have a good weekend, I need to grocery shop, visit her, and sort some more files.
